Recently, I visited family in the eastern part of the country. I was given a tour of their beautiful home. At one point, I saw two folders in a cupboard. The first had a label that said “wishes (in progress)” and the second “wishes (completed)”. I thought it was a great idea to archive your wishes like this. My cousin looked at me surprised and told me these folders were for his clients! I laughed and later realized it would be a good idea to make these two folders for myself as well.
Closing wishes
I do have wishes. I even wrote them down as SMART goals. We spend a lot of time on whether or not to achieve goals. Once they have been achieved, we often pay little attention to them. A wish or goal is a project that needs to be closed even if it has not been achieved.
Gratitude
When wishes have been realized, it is important to pause for a moment and enjoy the moment. Then, there is room for gratitude, and we can perhaps thank the people who helped us realize our wishes.
Letting go of wishes
Wishes that have not been fulfilled can be removed by putting them in the “done” folder. This way, we can better focus on our “current” wishes. Nevertheless, a short evaluation is appropriate. “How could it happen that this goal was not achieved?” or “How could I have defined this goal better?” can be questions for the evaluation. Perhaps a new (and more feasible) wish can then be written down…
